As many international travelers return to the United Kingdom from their summer holidays, some are arriving with diseases.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has published its latest report, which summarizes the number of selected travel-associated infections reported in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland for 2025.

As of August 18, 2025, the UKHSA's Research and Analysis report includes detailed information on trends related to chikungunya, cholera, dengue, rickettsial infections, and Zika virus disease.

Additionally, the report provides a summary of infections for Japanese encephalitis, Oropouche virus disease, and outbreaks of yellow fever.

The new report highlighted the following data:

An increase in chikungunya cases was reported, with a total of 73 cases between January and June 2025, with 42 cases confirmed in London. This data is compared to 27 cases for the same period in 2024.

Eight travel-associated cholera cases were reported, compared with one case for the same period in 2024.

Dengue cases decreased to 161, down from 490 during the same period in 2024, with Thailand, Brazil, and Indonesia as the most frequently reported travel destinations. London led other cities with 72 dengue cases this year.

Oropouche virus disease was reported for the first time, with three imported cases all linked to travel to Brazil.

Zika virus disease cases decreased to 4 instances, down from 9 cases in the first six months of 2024, with most still associated with travel to Thailand.
