The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has released its "Destinations to Watch 2026" report, highlighting 10 emerging, lesser-known travel destinations.

Compiled by ABTA experts based on market trends, customer sentiment, and evolving traveler preferences, this annual guide emphasizes authentic experiences over mainstream destinations.

Recent ABTA research indicates that 71% of people plan to take overseas holidays in 2025, with this positive momentum carrying into travel plans for 2026.

"People are increasingly seeking experiences from their holidays, digging deeper into their destinations to discover more authentic experiences," notes the report. Rather than focusing on the most popular hotspots, ABTA's selections highlight places that offer fresh perspectives, whether they are entirely off the beaten path or renewed takes on familiar regions," wrote these authors.

The ten "Destinations to Watch" for 2026 include Colombia, known for its historic cities, lush rainforests, and exceptional South American coffee culture, which is gaining popularity among UK travelers.

And the Islands in the Gulf of Naples, including scenic escape spots like Capri, Ischia, and Procida, with new flight routes to Naples from Gatwick, enhancing accessibility in 2026.
