Italy Travel Vaccines 2025
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) provide advice about the risks of traveling to the Italian Republic in 2025, to help you make informed health decisions. Located in Southern and Western Europe, over 100 million international travelers visited Italy in 2024. Italy Chikungunya
The ECDC confirmed Italy has reported local cases of Chikungunya fever in 2025. In Veronese, autochthonous cases of Chikungunya virus infection were reported. As of August 2025, 66 confirmed cases of chikungunya (37 travel-associated cases and 29 indigenous cases) had been detected in northern Italy, many of which were linked to the strains circulating on Réunion Island in France. On September 22, 2025, the U.S. Embassy issued a Health Alert that stated Chikungunya cases have been concentrated in Italy's Emilia-Romagna and Veneto Regions.
Italy Dengue Fever
As of August 21, 2025, 127 confirmed cases of dengue (123 travel-associated cases and four indigenous (local) cases) have been reported. Between 2008 and 2023, in 2025. In the territory of the Bologna (Budrio) Local Health Authority in 2023, 92 cases of dengue were reported, all of which were imported, with 17 cases in 2023. A second-generation vaccine is available and can be administered according to the guidelines provided by the Emilia-Romagna Region.
Italy Jubilee 2025
The Jubilee, known as the Holy Year, will take place in Rome from December 2024 to January 6, 2026. The city is expected to be very busy during the Jubilee of Youth from July 28 to August 3, 2025. Italy Measles
From January to April 2025, the health ministry investigated 42 suspected measles cases in the Metropolitan City of Milaits and surrounding areas. In 2024, the Metropolitan City of Milan and surrounding areas in northern Italy (4 million people) experienced a measles epidemic caused by multiple introductions of different genotype D8 lineages, which led to small outbreaks, mostly linked to importation events and/or vulnerable population groups, without evidence of sustained local circulation.
Toscana Virus Italy
As of September 2025, a total of 95 locally acquired cases of Toscana virus, including one fatality, have been reported in Italy. The most affected regions have been Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, and Marche.
Italy West Nile Virus
West Nile virus (WNV) is endemic in Italy. As of August 13, 2025, a total of 275 cases of West Nile virus infection (including 19 deaths) have been confirmed in Italy since the beginning of 2025. The Lazio region remains the most affected region, with 140 cases in 2025. In 2022, 531 people were diagnosed with cases in Veneto. WNV vaccines are unavailable for WNV prevention in 2025.
Italy Zika Virus
As of September 2025, four Zika cases have been diagnosed in Italy.
