Houston, Texas Travel Vaccines July 2025

Travel Vaccines 2025

Travel vaccinations in Houston include but are not limited to the following vaccines:

Cholera - The cholera vaccine has constrained availability worldwide, but is available in the U.S.

Dengue—The Dengvaxia vaccine is no longer available in the U.S. The Qdenga vaccine is authorized in several countries but not in the U.S.

Hajj and Umrah - Several vaccinations are required to enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Malaria - Two malaria vaccines are available in Africa as of 2025, but not in the United States.

Measles—The  MMR, Proquad, and Priorix vaccines are available in the U.S. In 2025, measles cases were reported in Harris County. Harris County Public Health may contact residents who have potentially been exposed to a confirmed case of measles. 

Mpox - The Jynneos vaccine is a U.S. FDA-authorized vaccine. The Houston Health Department offers free mpox vaccines. April is Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Awareness Month, and Harris County Public Health is taking action to promote safer health practices and reduce the impact of disease. Harris County, Texas, with 17% mpox immunity, has a 50% risk of reintroduction, conditional on the presence of mpox.

Polio vaccines—The IPOL vaccine is recommended for international travelers visiting countries with a risk of polio transmission. The nOPV2 polio vaccine is not available in the U.S., but it has been administered over 1 billion times globally.

RSV Vaccine - Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of respiratory disease in infants and young children. In 2025, RSV cases can be reduced by vaccines and monoclonal antibody treatments. The NVSN surveillance site in Houston reported a 71% drop in hospitalizations when these immunization products were offered in Texas.

Tuberculosis - Tuberculosis remains a significant health problem in the City of Houston, Harris County, Texas. Merck's Tice BCG vaccine is approved, but its availability is limited in Houston. Recent data indicate tuberculosis rates are accelerating in Houston. In 2024, 1,238 TB cases were reported in Texas. The number of cases reported in 2022, 1.097, represents an increase of 9.9 percent from 2021, when 998 cases were reported. 

Typhoid - Both the Vivotif and Typbar TCV vaccines are available in 2025.

Urinary Tract Vaccine - The Uromune (MV140) recurrent Urinary Tract Infection (rUTI) vaccine is not currently offered in the U.S. but is expected to be available in Mexico and England in 2025. International appointment requests can be made using this link.

Yellow Fever - Yellow fever vaccination services are available at clinics and pharmacies in Houston. The YF-Vax® single-dose Yellow Fever vaccine is available in 2025. This vaccine generates maximum immunity after ten days. Known as the 'yellow card,' the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP) is available following vaccination at certified yellow fever vaccination centers. As of 2025, the WHO published an updated Country List to identify which countries require an ICVP to enter.
